It all started with this book

We started in New York State

We set out to publish a book targeted for New York State high schools, aligned to the New York State Standards for Economics. After dozens of school districts had adopted our text and thousands of students had been educated using this book, the requests started coming in from neighboring states, and then from across the country - could we use this for our kids? Could you do a national edition?

Thus, ACCESSIBLE ECONOMICS was born.

Why Our Book Makes Sense For you

We get it. As a high school teacher, you're busy. Really busy. You most likely have multiple preparations, so Economics probably competes with your efforts to convince teenagers to write a better essay on the French Revolution or the Monroe Doctrine.  At some point, an administrator will be popping in to do an unannounced observation. Then, it's probably off to coach a sport, direct a play, or advise a student group.  Time is ever so scarce.

Here's why Accessible Economics makes sense for your classroom:

It's written concisely. Our textbook is short, only about 200 pages long.  It's divided into 11 chapters that are easily digestible. No more skipping around in a 650 page textbook, trying to pick and choose what seems relevant for your kids.

It's built like a story.  Our textbook contains a clear, logical thread from beginning to end. It has a strong narrative voice so the reader feels that the author is talking directly to the student. As the teacher, you can guide, retell, and enrich that story with your own exercises and activities that you've always done.

It reflects current theory. Our book meets all the newest standards, including those concerning personal finance.  Jerry sat on the committee that helped develop those standards in New York State, so we know what we're doing.

It aligns with evaluation frameworks. Each chapter begins with a set of essential questions which can be used to help you easily make the transition to an inquiry-based model for Social Studies instruction.

It includes valuable resources. With the purchase of a class set of books, we will also provide a set of PowerPoints for each chapter to help you tell the story.  These PowerPoints go along with the text, but you can customize them to include your favorite ideas and resources.  We will also provide a test bank for each chapter that has both multiple-choice and open-ended questions for you to customize your assessments to meet your students' needs. Unlike other companies which charge hundreds of dollars for ancillary materials, we provide these for free.
